John Young, PhD, is the chief strategy officer of Quantitative Biosciences Institute (QBI) at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and the founder of JY Scientific Consulting LLC.
Dr. Young was previously the therapeutic area head of Infectious Diseases and Global Head of Pandemic Preparedness at Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) and a professor at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. He served as a board member on the AMR Action Fund and on the INTREPID Alliance for Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response. He was a member of the leadership team of the public-private partnership Accelerating COVID-19 Therapeutic Interventions and Vaccines (ACTIV) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He is a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, recipient of the American Society for Microbiology’s Eli Lilly and Company-ELANCO Research Award, co-recipient of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of the Director’s Award, and a co-recipient of the Charles A. Sanders M.D. Partnership Award from the Foundation for the NIH.
