Emily Neuhaus, PhD

Dr. Emily Neuhaus is a licensed Clinical Psychologist at Seattle Children’s and an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington. The overarching goal of her research program is to understand phenotypic heterogeneity among individuals with neurogenetic and neurodevelopmental conditions associated with autism, intellectual disability, and psychiatric conditions. Through federally funded and foundation grants, Dr. Neuhaus directs a number of ongoing projects examining medical, psychiatric, and cognitive functioning among youth and adults with a range of psychiatric and neurodevelopmental diagnoses. Her team often follows a genetics-first approach with in-depth neurodevelopmental, behavioral, and psychiatric phenotyping, aiming to characterize complicated profiles of features to support biomarker development, clinical trials, and elucidation of natural history. Dr. Neuhaus has expertise in rigorous, standardized characterization of autism features, social and communication skills, mental health, and interactions between these constructs among youth and adults with neurogenetic and neurodevelopmental disorders, including those profoundly affected. These efforts are complemented by collaborative research focused on the neurobiology of neurodevelopmental disorders, including electrophysiological methods (ERP, EEG), to delineate brain-behavior trajectories across the lifespan.
