Sara Deakyne Davies is the Director of Research Informatics & Data Science, and Chief Research Informatics Officer at Children’s Hospital Colorado where she has overseen the research informatics infrastructure and services since 2013. The Research Informatics and Data Science program includes a team of analysts, data engineers and data scientists who support informatics and data science needs for research conducted at Children’s Hospital Colorado, including consultation on use of the real-world data deriver from electronic health record (EHR), for research, transformation and curation of data extracts to prepare data for analysis, data quality, data harmonization, data warehousing, and translation of research and data science into clinical workflows. Sara has served as an informaticist for a numerous research projects over the past 15+ years resulting in more than 70 peer-reviewed publications, including several implementation research projects where rule-base or predictive model-based decision support is implemented. Sara provides leadership in multiple national and regional research networks, including PEDSnet, PCORnet and CHORDS, currently serving as a member of the PEDSnet Data Committee and PEDSnet Steering Committee, and former PCORnet Data Committee co-Chair. Sara previously served on the Epic Brain Trust for their Life Sciences program. Locally, Sara serves as co-Chair for Children’s Hospital Colorado committees, including the Data Science Steering Committee, Clinical Research Steering Committee and Organizational Research Risk and Quality Improvement Review Panel. In addition, Sara serves on the Children’s Hospital Colorado Artificial Intelligence Guardrails Committee, Clinical Research Review Committee, Clinical Content and Decision Support Committee, among others. Sara’s research and expertise focus on harmonization of electronic health record data into common data models, implementation of research into clinical workflows, data quality and compliance with national and state regulations related to the use of electronic health record data for research. Sara has a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology, is certified in Epic Clarity Data Model and has been involved in clinical research for over 20 years.
