Rebecca C. Shaffer, PsyD, HSPP, is a professor of pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, specializing in neurodevelopmental disorders, and is the Director of Psychological Services at the Cincinnati Fragile X Center. Dr. Shaffer has a strong interest in emotion regulation intervention and is a co-creator of Regulating Together, a group intervention addressing emotion regulation for autistic youth. Her lab has funding through the the Department of Defense and National Institute of Health examining how well Regulating Together works for kids and families. Dr. Shaffer believes in empowering families and youth with the skills they need to manage stress and strong emotions, particularly those impacted by disparities. Dr. Shaffer is also the Site-Primary Investigator of SPARK at Cincinnati Children’s and has additional funding to increase community engagement with the African American autistic community through SPARK. Her work also includes stakeholders at every stage of research and builds community engagement to increase research participation. Dr. Shaffer also serves on the Board of Directors for the National Fragile X Foundation and serves as a consultant across many neurodevelopmental research trials.
